Hi Everybody… and Goodmorning / -afternoon / – night

24-Q

To me, by far the most challenging letter… specificly if one chooses to keep it to one theme throughout the whole round, like I do. Like I did for many rounds now including round 24. After this week we have 9 letters left before a new round starts… The 25th, how wonderful is that if one thinks of how far we have become and what we all already have shared with one and another? WOW!

Well for this round I show / introduce to you the Quokka. They are the smallest kinds of kangaroo on our planet and it is said that they are the happiest animals because they seem to love being photographes with people who make selfies with them. If that is true or not is for debat, I have nothing to proove it ofcourse. They are aprox. 40 cm in height and weigh around 1,5 kg. The tail is between 25 and 35 cms long.

Thank you for your entries so far… and I hope I may still be able to welcome you throughout this round and in the new one wich will start on july 9th! If you would like to become a teammember on ABC, please let me know! If you do have questions, remarks, ideas or anything else you want to tell us at ABC, please let us know too!

Hi Everybody… and Goodmorning / -afternoon / – night

24-O
Well… as you probably have noticed… I was not present for the previous entry and I did not visit you for the two last entries in this round.
Sometimes and shockingly abrupt, life goes a totally different way.
Within 4 days time I had to come to terms with 3 horrific and very painfull things.
On monday I had to put down one of my dogs – On thursday, totally unexpected, a good friend died at the age of 65 – On friday one of my best friends ever died after 2 weeks of intense worries and 15 years of struggling with a number of diseases, at the age of 71.
So my bi polar disorder went skyrocking and it took all the energy I had to get through from one moment to the other.

Thankfully Roger was so sweet to have my back and do what I couldn’t, thank you Roger!!!

Now… trying to find the way for me to coop with all of this… starting to blog again… my entry for 24-O is: Okapi
They are not present in my hometown zoo sadly enough but if I drive for aprox. 2,5 hours I can visit them in Blijdorp – Rotterdam, the only zoo in The Netherlands who keeps them by the way and they are very fortunate as well because on februari first the second baby was born, the previous one in 2017 on october 28th.

Hi Everybody… and Goodmorning / -afternoon / – night

24-M

Did I get a surprise *smile*
As the English language is not my native tongue… I always have to search for animals fitting the letter I need… I almost only photograph animals (and nature) so I do have lots and lots of photo’s from many kinds of animals… Prefarbly I want to use photographs from my ‘own’ hometown zoo ofcourse where I walk around at least twice a week in general.  So the animals I want to show you today are:

Monitor Lizard: (overhere in The Netherlands we call them Smaragd Varaan wich literally translated means: Emerald Lizard)

Millipede: (overhere in The Netherlands we call them Miljoenpoot wich literally translated means: Million Leg)

Hi Everybody… and Goodmorning / -afternoon / – night

24-L

Today I give you the Lemur. These lovely creatures live also in many zoo’s around the world and thankfully my hometown zoo has them too.  Here in The Netherlands we call them Ringstaart Maki’s. (liturally translated it sais: Ring-Tail Maki… and Maki being another word for Ape, sounds logical in total, doesn’t it?).

We have a group of aprox. 30 of them. And we are expecting! Every day now some little ones will be born because the last few months we had a visitor in the group, a Male called Ernie. He came to stay for a while in our group in the hope to give some ladies a growing present in their bellies, and he succeeded. I won’t give details about how he did that ofcourse, you can all imagine it I presume *smile*.

So… introducing our guest: Ernie:

and here again with one of his girlfriends who is one of the expecting Ladies: Maya
By the way…. this photo shows one of the ways how to know when a Lemur is male or female… The males have red eyes, the females have yellow eyes.

And one of my favorites: Jara

Hi Everybody… and Goodmorning / -afternoon / – night

24-K

In my hometown zoo we don’t have Kangaroo’s nor Koala’s, the animals I’ve shown in my entry at 23-K, the previous round but we have animals that most people call Kangaroo, whilst their real name is Walibi.. not that strange, because lots of people don’t know the difference between these two species, they look very similar, the most obvious difference is their size. Walibi’s are lots smaller. Since walibi’s look a lot like a kangaroo, and since we don’t have any other animals  in my zoo, and I don’t have photograps of them in other zoo’s, and I don’t want to ‘borrow’ photo’s that are not made by myself… wich name starts with a K … I show you the Walibi, a kind of kangaroo

Hi Everybody… and Goodmorning / -afternoon / – night

24-J

Today, I slightly alter my ‘theme’ for this round of ABC.
As you know, I always choose animals… I do have countless photo’s to choose from…. like the one I’ve choosen for today.
Some times in the year some zoo’s decorate their parks with animals of another kind. Made from parachute-fabrick and with lots of little lights in them…
Those zoo’s open their doors to the public in the evening-hours so one can see it all in the dark, looks much more beautiful than in daylight ofcourse.
So for letter J… the Jellyfish but in a much much larger size and not quit living in the same way as their little family-members in the waters and fishtanks around the globe.

Hi Everybody… and Goodmorning / -afternoon / – night

24-I

My first thought… the Indian Elephant, ofcourse as I am a huge elephant-lover.  Two images I want to share with you of the latest ones born in my hometown zoo

Mauk born on april 2 –  2018 &

Manoa, born on June 26, 2018

Two beautiful boys… the latest one is the most daring and we already ‘know’ that he is quit a handful for his mother, his aunt and the other elephants in herd.
But… nevertheless  every visit is a joy when those little ones are around!!!

Hi Everybody… and Goodmorning / -afternoon / – night

24-H

One of my favorites…. they seem so sweet and gentle but beware, they are not!!!
So if you ever come across one in the wild…. never, never ever get in between it and water!
They have no natural enemy’s … so they always feel safe, no matter wich other animals surround them…
The only real threat they have is their sleep…. if their internal clock fails to work right they die in their sleep because the internal organs press together the longs through wich they will sufficate.

In my hometown zoo we have 6 ladies who have lots and lots of space… so the public can watch them whilst they are outside and also inside when they are under the waters. Beeing under water watching them is very beautiful… because then you can see how agile they realy are and how fast too.
